Atlas of the History of the Consulate and the Empire / Atlas de l'Histoire du Consulat et de l'Empire
Developed and designed under the direction of M. Thiers, by M. Dufor and Duvotenay, engraved on copperplate by M. Gillot and M. Dyonnet
Publisher Paulin Lheureux et Cie., Paris 1864
Hardcover Cloth 70 pages. Condition Poor No Dust Jacket. Second edition 1864. No marks, highlights or bookplates. Cover boards are half leather with gilded lettering at spine, and marbled. Boards are heavily worn and binding has separated from 66 sewn maps and endpapers. Significant signs of wear and/or age. Maps are foxed, but clearly legible. Not an ex-library, book club or remainder copy. Oversized book; S&H will be adjusted.
Marie Joseph Louis Adolphe Thiers 1797-1877 was a French statesman and historian. He was the second elected President of France and the first President of the French Third Republic.
Map plates 20 & 21 are hand colored, double page. Sizes 11" x 18" for the single sheet maps, 22" x 18" for double page maps.
Note second illustration has list of map plates (I'm too lazy to type in 66 French titles). These are quite attractive and remarkably detailed copperplate printed maps. Stock photos of maps can be found here: https://www.alamy.com/atlas-de-lhistoire-du-consulat-et-de-lempire-history-of-the-consulate-and-the-empire-of-france-under-napoleon-by-marie-joseph-louis-adolphe-thiers-1797-1877-drawings-by-dufour-engravings-by-dyonnet-edited-in-paris-1864-frontispiece-image231603860.html.
FYI I have a partial set (49 of 66 maps) of the same maps from folios in very good condition (bagged and boarded) that I am bundling with my set of The History Of The Consulate And The Empire. Some photos of THOSE maps are provided; the maps in this atlas are of similar quality.

Sir Henry Rider Haggard (1856-1925), author of "King Solomon's Mines", combines romance and exotic adventure in this novel of the Voortrekkers of 1836: Swallow is a Dutch girl raised in South Africa among the Kaffirs. Lonely, she gazes from shore over the waves of a storm-tossed sea, and dreams of a brother entering her life . . . and soon finds herself face-to-face with a shipwrecked waif cast ashore by the storm. Swallow grows to love the English boy Ralph Kenzie. He returns her love -- but must face the murderous Swart Piet, who is intent on taking Swallow for himself -- and equally set on bringing war to the region. Torn from… Read More

The story is set in the Ptolemaic era of Ancient Egyptian history and revolves around the survival of a dynasty bloodline protected by the Priesthood of Isis. The main character Harmachis (the living descendant of the pharaoh's bloodline) is charged by the Priesthood to overthrow the supposed impostor Cleopatra, drive out the Greeks and Romans and restore Egypt to its golden era.
As is the case with the majority of Haggard's works, the story draws heavily upon adventure and exotic concepts. The story, told from the point of view of the Egyptian priest Harmachis, is recounted in biblical language, being in the form of papyrus scrolls… Read More
