About This Item

New York: Harper & Row, 1976. First U.S. edition. Hardcover. 269 pages. Despite the number row ending in a 5 this is the first printing. An underappeciated novel from the Nobel Prize in Literature winning author of "Love in the Time of Cholera." Translated from the Spanish by Gregory Rabassa. A clean near fine copy in blue cloth boards and in near fine dust jacket with some very minor wear and a crease to the front flap. A nicer than usual copy of a book that is prone to wear.

Synopsis

The Autumn of the Patriarch is a novel written by Gabriel García Márquez in 1975. A "poem on the solitude of power" according to the author, the novel is a flowing tract on the life of an eternal dictator. The book is divided into six sections, each retelling the same story of the infinite power held by the archetypical Caribbean tyrant.
