The heroine of Nana, one of his best-known works, is the product of her squalid environment and leads a dissipated life. Zola's theme is the transmission of traits through heredity and the significant influence of the environment in shaping human beings. Bound in black cloth with gilt lettering on spine and blind-stamp design on front, generally clean, faded looking. Edges lightly rubbed.
