Leipzig, Voss und Compagnie, 1794-95.. Volume I and 25 pages of Volume 2 only. FIRST EDITION, 1794-95. 4to, approximately 250 x 210 mm, 9¾ x 8¼ inches, engraved title page to Volume I with colour printed vignette, Volume 2 lacks title page, chapters 1-xxxvi, 36 ATTRACTIVE HAND COLOURED PLATES OF WILD FLOWERS, 30 to Volume I and 6 to the first part of Volume II, the text is in 3 languages: GERMAN, FRENCH and ENGLISH, pages: 1-154 including index, bound in half speckled sheep over marbled sides, contrasting gilt lettered labels to spine, all edges red. Spine slightly rubbed at head and tail of spine, corners slightly worn, neat inscription on front pastedown, inscriber's initials stamped neatly on title page, title page faintly browned, small old ink library stamp on verso title page and on final page of index, occasional small brown spots to text pages, a few text pages lightly browned, originally sold in 28 parts and occasional trace of blue paper wrapper shows at inner edge including on title page, 1 plate has a little faint browning to background, 1 has a small very pale stain to background, otherwise plates very nice and bright, binding tight and firm. A very good copy (Volume I and first part of Volume II ). Little is known about Friedrich Dreves (1775-1816) born in Dobbersen. He was responsible only for Volume I, the later volumes were by Friedrich Gottlob Hayne with the assistance of Heinrich Christoph Albrecht. See: Sotheby & Co. Leather along fronthinge with tears, but but not broken and binding tight. 4 engraved titlepages of which the 2 first are handcoloured, and 2 printed titles (to volume 3 a. 4). 154;176;VIII,188;178;62 pp. and 141 fine engraved and handcoloured plates (numb. 1-142, n. 77 lacks). A few repairs to outher margins of titlepage and some plates and textlvs. A few plts. and textlvs. browned in lower margin. First edition of this scarce botanical work which was issued in 28 parts with in all 152 plates. Rare original poetry book with cloth covered boards, copyright 1880 by J. W. Shoemaker & Co. This edition published in 1906 by the Penn Publishing company, Philadelphia. From the estate of my great-great grandfather.Includes many unique poems and recitations such as "To a skull", "Uncle Daniel's Introduction to a Mississippi Steamer", "The Leak in the Dyke", etc. More well-known poetry includes "Song of Birds", "Old Ironsides", and "Bannock Burn" by Robbie Burns. Light rubbing and bumps to outside spine edges. Back cover and interior cloth covered board has a stain at top. Original owner's name and address from 1908, but no other writing or marks. First 2 pages have a stain at top, but text of 192 pages of poetry and recitations is totally clean with light tanning of pages.
