About This Item
Paris and Copenhagen: A. Morancé, etc. , 1935-38. First edition, inscribed.. About fine, while dust jackets are good to very good.. 4 volumes, 29 cm. Each volume warmly inscribed by Kjersmeier to Guillaume de Hondt, distinguished 20th century collector of African and Oceanic art, who contributed materially to the work. Volume 1: Afrique occidentale française (41 pages and 64 photo halftone plates; erratum slip tipped in at end); volume 2: Guinée portugaise, Sierra-Leone, Libéria, Côte d'Or, Togo, Dahomey et Nigéria (30 pages and 58 photo halftone plates); volume 3: Congo belge (42 pages and 56 plates); volume 4: Cameroun, Afrique équatoriale française, Angola, Tanganyika, Rhodésie (29 pages and 42 plates). All four volumes bound in printed boards with original illustrated dust jackets. Dust jackets somewhat tanned along spines, with slight fraying at heads and tails; volume 2 dust jacket splitting along joint; all volumes otherwise remarkably fresh and well-preserved.
One of the first systematic surveys of sculpture in Africa, still considered fundamental. Complete sets are difficult to find, rarer still in good condition, inscribed in all four volumes.

About Rodger Friedman Rare Book Studio
Rodger Friedman Rare Book Studio owes its name and its inspiration to the traditional Italian studio bibliografico. These small antiquarian bookshops, typically run by individuals who combine deep scholarship with a love of the printed object, remind us that underlying the words "study" and "studio" is the Latin term for zeal and devotion, studium. Since 1993, my goal has been to match discerning collectors with extraordinary books and manuscripts.
