Gilt titles and decorations on cover are bright. Sepia or brown colored illustrations throughout. 32 heavyweight, glossy pages with single color illustrations on almost every page. Author Hezekiah Butterworth (1839-1905) wrote more than 70 books, most for young adults, many of them with religious themes. He may be best known for the Zigzag Series of books for boys, published by the same publisher as this volume. Corners and head and heel of spine worn, edgewear and small bump to back board. Penciled price and fingermarks on fep. Binding is cracked at title page and book is shaken. There are finger or smudge marks on the borders of many pages. There is a very, very light waterstain on the far margin of bottom corners. Publisher's blemish to inside margin between pages 16 and 17 and to the top of page 14 and 15. We note a wrinkled corner to the top of page 9 and a half inch tear on the top of page 11.
