London: Faber and Faber Limited, 1955. Cloth. Very Good/Good. 9" by 6". None. A first edition copy of the ancient Chinese Odes, translated into English by Ezra Pound. The first edition. In the publisher's full cloth binding with the original unclipped dust wrapper. Ancient China's 'The Book of Odes', translated into English by Ezra Pound. The Odes are ballads, written to be sung and danced to. Confucius sang the Odes frequently to his lute, and it is thought that he was their musical editor. With an introduction by Achilles Fang. The previous owner's ink signature, dated 1956, is on the front free endpaper. In the publisher's cloth binding. Externally, smart with some light shelf wear to the edges and a few marks to the boards and spine. Darkening to the spine and edges. Contemporary ink inscription to the front free endpaper. Offsetting to the free endpapers. The original, unclipped dust wrapper is a trifle worn. Chipping to the edges and spine. Darkening to the spine and edges. Marks to the panels. A few tears. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean with some light age-toning to the edges. Very Good
