About This Item

London & New York: Macmillan And Co., 1896-98-1901., 1901. 3 Volumes. 8vo. pp. xvi, 196; xi, 207 + [4]ads; xxi, 436, [4]ads. with half-titles. numerous text illus. & diagrams (some full-page). original cloth (spines sunned, extremities bit chipped & frayed, a few spots to front cover of Vol. 3, occasional spotting in the text). First Edition of Vols. I and III; Second Edition of Volume II (uniformly bound). Taggart's instructional manual was prepared for the technical education of students of cotton spinning. Taggart realized that the decline of England's domination in the cotton industry at the turn of the century was due to the rapid rate of innovation in cotton spinning machinery and to poorly-educated mill workers, particularly those coming from England's technical schools. The manual was assembled from a series of articles printed in the trade journal The Textile Mercury, but Taggart edited, emended and added material to produce this thorough guide. The work is profusely illustrated with technical diagrams and tables of the most modern machinery. cfWoodbury p. 33.. F. Hardcover.
