About This Item

New York: Garden City Publishing Company, 1927. First edition. Cloth. Very Good. 8.5" by 6". Not Stated. A bright first edition copy of this biography of the German nobleman and naval officer Felix von Luckner. A first edition copy of this work in the publisher's original cloth binding. Felix Nikolaus Alexander Georg Graf von Luckner (1881-1966), sometimes called Count Luckner in English, was a German nobleman, naval officer, author, and sailor. He earned the epithet Der Seeteufel (the Sea Devil), and his crew also earned the name Die Piraten des Kaisers (the Emperor's Pirates), during their time sailing commerce raider SMS Seeadler (Sea Eagle) in the First World War. Luckner became a war hero in Germany and was renowned around the world for his seamanship and chivalrous conduct during the war, which resulted in a minimal loss of life on both sides. This is a biography of his life, with particular emphasis on his exploits during the First World War, by Lowell Thomas (1892-1981), the American writer, broadcaster and traveller. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally generally smart, though faded to the spine, including the spine lettering. A couple of small marks to the rear board. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Very Good
