Garden City: Doubleday & Company, Inc, 1948. First Edition, First Printing. Cloth. Near fine/very good. Signed first edition, first printing of Crusade in Europe by Dwight D. Eisenhower.. Octavo, xiv, [2], 559pp. Publisher's tan cloth, title printed on spine. Stated "first edition" on copyright page, noting that it follows the limited edition, which was published the same year. Illustrated endpapers. Solid text block, internally clean. Rubbing to spine from handling. In the publisher's dust jacket, price clipped, bright illustrations, small archival tape repairs to verso, a bright example. Inscribed to Fred J. Byington (1876-1952) of Wilmette, Ill, General Manager of the North Western Railway. Signed on the half-title: "For Fred Byington, with best wishes and warm regard from his friend. Dwight D. Eisenhower / Dec. '48." From the Eisenhower library, this copy is one of 110 first trade editions inscribed by Gen. Eisenhower to friends and fellow dignitaries when the book was released in December of 1948. Other notable recipients of the first trade edition include: General Jimmy Doolittle, Averell Harriman, Lt. General Manton Eddy, and General Hap Arnold. Includes Beckett Letter of Authenticity.
