The years 1630, 1635, 1638, 1639, 1646, 1649-52, 1654, 1655, 1658, 1660 & 1662 were never published.An important source for the history of the Dutch East India Company (VOC) and for the political and economic history of Asia more generally is the “Dagh-register” of Batavia Castle, the VOC headquarters in Asia published by the Batavian Society of Arts and Sciences. It is a day by day chronical of events that took place in Batavia and of news received from all quarters concerning the greatest variety of subjects. The board of governors of the VOC, had ordered this diary to be kept and sent to them on a regular basis to keep them informed of all matters that might affect the Company. Giving not only a day-to-day record of events in the capital of the Company's empire, but also a meticulous account of the ships entering and leaving Batavia together with very detailed reports of all the news these ships brought from all those parts of the world with which the Company maintainted contact. . - Rare set.
