Neat pencil owner's signatures; fine in a lightly soiled, edge worn but complete dust jacket (design by Sugar) with some old tape-mends to the underside.. 8vo, 226pp; cloth-backed boards. Author's first book and one of only two to appear in English during her lifetime. Well regarded in France during her lifetime, Nemirovsky was killed in Auschwitz and did not achieve widespread acclaim until the posthumous publication of her unfinished "Suite Francaise" in 2004. Quite scarce, especially in dust jacket.

Synopsis

David Golder is writer Irène Némirovsky's first novel. It was recently re-issued following the popularity of the newly-discovered masterpiece Suite Française, written by Némirovsky whilst in hiding in France during the Second World War. David Golder was published in France in 1929 and won instant acclaim for the 26-year-old author.
