Herbert Jenkins, London, 1951. First Edition. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Poor Condition (ex-library)/No Dust Jacket. VIII, 256 pages, last page blank. Red coloured boards with black titles to the front panel and back strip. A reading copy of an early 1950s crime thriller dealing with the Cold War, theft and murder. This book is an ex-library book and shows every time it has been borrowed ! Bumping, rubbing and fraying to the head and to the heel of the back strip and to the book corners. The spine is very cocked. Heavy rubbing and grubby marks to the book panels and noticeable rubbing to either side of the back strip and fading to the back strip region as well. Browning and foxing to the text block edges. Library rubber stamp to the front and rear paste-down. Browning and foxing to the end of papers and original bookseller's sticker to the lower right-hand corner of the front paste-down. The front and rear hinge has split and underlying webbing is very visible. Browning, foxing and handling marks to the internal pages. The rear free and paper has multiple rubber stamps and ink markings from being borrowed. The rear hinge has been in the expertly repaired with tape, tape still in situ. This is the first UK edition.
