227 pages. octavo (8 1/2" x 5 3/4") bound in original publisher's quarter brown cloth with gilt lettering to spine over cream color boards in original pictorial jacket. First edition. When the domineering wife of pharmacist Pip Carlton dies in her sleep, on one suspects Pip, even though he had access to all sorts of deadly poisons. But amateur sleuth Helen West and her friend Detective Constable Geoffrey Bailey soon become suspicious in this chilling tale of psychological terror. Condition: Some soiling to pages 62, 116-117, 133 and 135 else a very good copy in a near fine jacket.
