New York: Harper & Row (c.1963) BOMC Edition. Copious list of illustrations provided....ninety striking drawings and photographs. Introduction by Marston Bates and preface by the author. The breadth and beauty of North America are here interpreted to give the amateur naturalist or perceptive traveler a solid understanding of the continent's long history and its diverse land and water forms and the forces that produced them. This book can be used as a traveler's guide for learning of areas worth visiting and for answering questions about scenes encountered en route. The drawings are by artist Jerome Connolly who has served as staff artist for the National Audubon Society and the Illinois State Museum. The eight most informative chapters are followed with an appendix (giving outstanding natural areas of North America by state and province), readings and index. Blue cloth boards with gilt decoration to front board. No ownership markings. Illustrated dust jacket.. Very Good/Good.
