About This Item

New York, London, Copenhagen: British Book Centre Inc.; Maxons & Co.; Nyt Nordisk Forlag, 1954. Very good plus.. Midcentury edition of Hans Christian Andersen's autobiography, with illustrations by Danish artist Niels Larsen Stevns. The introduction to this edition (the first with Jones's translation) notes that Stevns's watercolor illustrations are the first time anyone has attempted to illustrate Andersen's autobiography; he also created the frescos that adorn the memorial hall of the Hans Christian Andersen Museum in Odense. 13'' x 9.5''. Original cloth-backed yellow boards. No dust jacket. Illustrated in color. 350 pages. Copyright page with charcoal mark through "All rights reserved," slightly offset to facing page. Binding with light edgewear and bumping, a few careful infills. A bit shaken, but sound. Colors bright.
