Publisher's lavender cloth blocked in gilt and argent on upper cover, spine lettered in gilt, plain white end papers, top edge gilt, border illustrations printed in sanguine, 4 half-tone plates tipped to blue Holland paper. In the RARE dust jacket. Near Fine, a few stray spots of toning at end papers only, tiny rubs at corners, prior owner gift inscription dated, appropriately dated "Xmas 1902". In the RARE Very Good dust jacket, small holes and chips at corners and edges, 4" tear at edge of front spine fold. "A NEW edition of this beautiful story, with full-page illustrations from paintings by Raphael, Murillo, and other masters, and marginal drawings, in tint, by William Martin Johnson." ( front of dust wrapper). The last copy in dust jacket sold in 1978 as noted in a dealer's catalogue at Rare Book Hub. . First Edition. Decorative Cloth. Near Fine/Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
