About This Item

New York: The Lambs, 1941. Volume One, Number One, Winter 1941-1942. 128 page magazine published for members of The Lambs, America's first professional theatrical club, organized in 1874 by a group of actors and enthusiasts. Since the club's founding, there have been more than 6,000 Lambs, with an elite roster reading like a Who's Who of American theater and film: Maurice, Lionel and John Barrymore, Irving Berlin, Cecil B. DeMille, Charlie Chaplin, George M. Cohan, Douglas Fairbanks, John Wayne, Richard Rodgers, Oscar Hammerstein II, Spencer Tracy and Fred Astaire. RARE, the magazine is in Very Good condition, small corner crease front wrappers, 1" loss of paper at bottom edge of spine. Editorial content includes "Sports at the Lambs "by Tex O'Rourke, "Why Pick on Hollywood", by James Mongomery Flagg, "Roysterers and Little Neck Lambs" by John Golden, and "Ballad Maker" by Theodore Dreiser. Numerous publicity photos of stars of the day, including Spencer Tracy, George M. Cohan, Al Jolson, Boris Karloff, and Joe E. Brown. Also numerous cartoons and drawings of scantily-clad women. A quite RARE piece of American stage and film history !. First Edition. Magazine. Very Good/No Jacket, As Issued. Folio - over 12" - 15" tall.
