Twelve tipped-in illustrations in color by Charles Robinson, with captioned tissue guards. (Lacking tissue guard at page 66 and marginal closed tears on the tissue guard at page 80) Many textual illustrations and pictorial endpapers, all by Robinson. Aside from the fault with two of the tissue guards and a bit of wear at the corners, this is a near fine copy of the First American Edition.

Fully illustrated throughout with 16 tipped in colour plates, pictorial title page, plus 25 full page and 100 smaller line drawings. A hint of browning to the blank endpapers but generally a very clean and bright copy in the original publishers yellow cloth binding with illustration to the front board in red and black. The spine and front board are lettered in black. A little darkening to spine but overall a better than very good copy of this beautiful book. --- Originally published by Constable and Co in 1912, this is the first Hodder and Stoughton edition and it contains all of the illustrations from the earlier edition. ROBINSON, W Heath. 1st Heath Robinson Illustrated Edition 18.8 x 25.5cm red cloth with a white panel to the centre of the front board and gilt stamped titles and decoration to the front and spine. Top edge red, xii 288 (2) with 16 tipped in coloured plates with captioned tissue guards and 88 black and white illustrations. The boards are clean and bright with some fading to the spine and a little pushing to the spine tips. Internally, there is a gift inscription dated 1916 to the front free endpaper, a small 1 cm bruise to the bottom edge of p176 not affecting the image and with no loss and occasional very light marking. Finely bound by Zaehnsdorf in early half dark brown morocco. Spine with raised bands with floral gilt roll design. Compartments ruled and lettered in gilt. Floral patterned paper on the boards and endpapers. Top edge gilt, the others untrimmed. Original stiff paper wraps bound in. A very good copy in an attractive late nineteenth century leather binding that has some very light wear to the edges but is overall very good indeed.
