About This Item

London: William Heinemann,, 1922. A bright copy, inscribed First edition, first impression, inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper, "For Mr. John Wilson, with the kind regards of V. Sackville West", his name pencilled above. The recipient is likely John Gideon Wilson, noted bookseller of Jones and Evans, which "served as a rendezvous for leading figures in the literary world" (ODNB). This work contains the title novella, The Heir, in which Sackville-West "vented her feelings about Knole", and four other short stories. Octavo. Original brown cloth, spine and front cover lettered in gilt, bottom edge untrimmed. Spine faded, lettering toned, brown mark and ink spots at head of spine, slight rubbing to board edges, foxing to book block edges and outer leaves; a very good, smart copy.
