Burke avoids any punches, calling Rousseau a man driven by vanity and lack of taste. Chides the leaders of the French Revolution for following Rousseau, thereby reversing the ideals of taste and grace, which are worthy of preservation, and combining them with aristocracy, the target of the French Revolution.

Stanley's detailed account of the Emin Pasha Relief Expedition (1886-1889), in which he led 400 armed men through the Congo and Ituri rain forest in an unsuccessful bid to rescue the Equatoria governor.
