About This Item

(New York): Random House, Inc, 1978. Very good.. First edition, first printing of this Seuss book about the wonders of reading, in his characteristic fantastical style. The price of ice? Kangaroo collars? Mississippi? Dr. Seuss tells us we can read about all these things and more, as long as we keep our eyes open! This charming romp through the wonders of reading features the line "The more that you learn, / the more places you'll go," which Seuss would revisit in the 1990 OH, THE PLACES YOU'LL GO! 9'' x 6.5''. Original color pictorial boards. Blue and white patterned endpapers with book synopsis. Illustrated in color. No jacket as issued. [20] leaves. Light bumping to corners and spine ends. Leaves with a couple tiny spots of soil; tape repair to hinge of front flyleaf and half-title page. Sound and bright.

Synopsis

Theodor Seuss Geisel—aka Dr. Seuss—is, quite simply, one of the most beloved children’s book authors of all time. The forty-four books he wrote and illustrated under the name Dr. Seuss (and others that he wrote but did not illustrate, including some under the pseudonyms Theo. LeSieg and Rosetta Stone) have been translated into thirty languages. Hundreds of millions of copies have found their way into homes and hearts around the world. Dr. Seuss’s long list of awards includes Caldecott Honors for McElligot’s Pool, If I Ran the Zoo, and Bartholomew and the Oobleck; the Pulitzer Prize; and eight honorary doctorates. Works based on his original stories have won three Oscars, three Emmys, three Grammys, and a Peabody.
