Second edition 1679 in 2 books (first published in 1677), Italian text. Folio, 305 x 195 mm, 12 x 7¾ inches, pages: title page, 1-126, [4], 127-304 including index, index misnumbered 195-203, should be 295-303, 4 unnumbered pages between 126 and 127, last page blank, some mispaginations but collated and guaranteed complete, bound in full antique calf, ornate gilt panelling to covers with floral motif at corners, gilt decorated cover edges, rebacked at some time with original backstrip laid on, gilt decorated raised bands, gilt decoration in compartments, lacking title label, marbled endpapers. Spine darkened, one or two minor scuffs and indentations to covers, corners slightly worn, inner paper hinges neatly repaired, old ink number on second blank endpaper which is age-browned, title page very slightly browned, small hole repaired in fore-edge margin of page 1, fore-edge margin of same page slightly trimmed, 3 margins slightly discoloured, short closed tear to 1 upper margin, neatly repaired, margins of last few pages have tiny hole to outer edge, binding tight and firm. A very good copy. An account of the invasions of Italy by the Goths in the 5th and 6th centuries taken by Mazza from existing sources, including Cassiodorus, Procopius, and Annius of Viterbo (1432?-1502).
