About This Item

New York: Harcourt, Brace and Company, 1956. First edition. Near fine in very good dust jacket.. First printing of this stylish picture book illustrated by the "model of a modern designer/art director" (Bader) behind the iconic looks of companies like IBM, ABC, Enron, UPS, and many others. Paul Rand's stylish eye shaped the landscape of American graphic design. Described as "something of a legend in the field of modern design" on the jacket of I KNOW A LOT OF THINGS, Rand would go on to even greater notoriety in the following decades for his skillful crafting of brand identities. His illustrations for THINGS pop with vibrant de Stijl-ish solid colors, and incorporate charming personality into deceptively simple shapes. This was the first picture book collaboration between Paul and his wife Ann, and is dedicated to their daughter. 10'' x 8.5''. Original yellow cloth boards. Original unclipped ($2.75) color pictorial dust jacket. Illustrated in color. [16] leaves. Jacket with a hint of toning, more pronounced to spine; expert tissue repairs to corners and spine. Binding with a touch of soil to edges. Interior clean and bright.
