The watchmaker's boy from Independence, KS meets the Santa Fe engineer's daughter from Chanute, KS and it begins a life and career filled with travel and exotic color. Martin was born to adventure road and when the married she married his destiny too. The marriage was always a-going, always a-seeing; home was to be a schooner in the South Seas, a raft in Borneo, a tent on safari, a hunt in the black Congo, sometimes a dash of Paris, interludes of an apartment on Fifth Avenue--but always a place to be going from. Long before there were safaris, movies, National Geographics, adventurers and explorers, there were the Johnsons filling in the void with stories and movies about a world way outside the US that opened people's eyes to nature and other peoples. This is the story of Martin and Osa Johnson and their adventures with camera and gun through the South Pacific and Africa in the 1920-1940 period. A clean very presentable copy in a Brodart mylar jacket. This is one of the nicest copies of this book I have ever listed.
Reviews
I saw the Johnsons present their travel movies when I was very young. My grandparents took me, and the book was on their shelf....now on mine. I love this book and have read it many times. The story of their romance is charming, and her courage at a young age is amazing. You may often see it in decorator/design magazines, because of the beautiful zebra print cloth cover.
