Prima edizione in lingua italiana del 1558 di questa splendida opera sugli epitaffi e le medaglie raccolte dall'autore durante i suoi viaggi in Italia, lo storico e astronomo fiorentino Gabriel Simoni (1509-1576). Stampata a Lione, è una delle edizioni più belle stampate da Jean de Tournes "L'ingéniosité de la mise en pages est tout à fait remarquable" (Brun, 294) Contemporaneamente a questa edizione venne pubblicata alcune settimane prima la versione francese che omise parte del testo e 17 illustrazioni. Dedica ad Alfonso D'este Principe di Ferrara. Frontespizio architetonico, ritratto dell'autore al verso del frontespizio e 68 finissime incisioni di medaglie, epitaffi e i dodici segni dello Zodiaco, molte attribuite all'incisore Bernard Salomon. Adams, Rawles and Saunders F.525; Cartier, De Tournes 419; Censimento 16 CNCE 35000; Dekesel S157 Français. L'opera è in un volume ed è completa. Due fogli con antiche note manoscritte sull'opera uno dei quali incollato al piatto posteriore. Sguardie marmorizzate. Tagli dorati. In ottime condizioni. Copertina in mezza pelle con titolo e decorazioni in oro al dorso in buone condizioni generali con lievi usure ai margini e dorso. Legatura in buone condizioni. Pagine in ottime condizioni con rare fioriture.In 8. cm 21x15. Pp. (8)+174+(1). First edition in 1558 of this wonderful work about epytaphs and medals collected by the author during his travels in Italy, the hystorian and atsronomer from Florence Gabriel Simoni (1509-1576). Published in Lyon, is one of the most beautiful editions published by Jean de Tournes "L'ingéniosité de la mise en pages est tout à fait remarquable" (Brun, 294) Contemporary to this edition, some weeks before was published the first french version which omitted part of the text and 17 illustrations. Dedication to Alfonso D'este Prince of Ferrara. Architectural title page, portrait of the author in the verso of title page and 68 very fine engravings of medals, epytaphs and twelve signs of Zodiac, many of them attributed to the engraver Bernard Salomon. Adams, Rawles and Saunders F.525; Cartier, De Tournes 419; Censimento 16 CNCE 35000; Dekesel S157 Français. The work is in one volume and it si complete Two pages with some handwritten notes, one of them attached in the back counterplate. Marbleed endpages. Gilted external edges pf pages. In very good conditions. Half leather cover with gilted title and decorations in the spine in good conditions lightly worn in the extremities. Binding in good conditions. Pages in very good conditions with occasional foxing. In 8. cm 21x15. Pp. (8)+174+(1).
