Very Good, vertical crease to cloth at spine, boards a bit soiled, in a Near Fine dust jacket, vertical crease at spine. The artist Henri Lenoir opened his legendary Vesuvio Café in 1948, five years before City Light Bookstore moved in across the alley. The Vesuvio became THE popular hangout for members of the Beat Generation, including Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg, Neal Cassady, and Lawrence Ferlinghetti, (who owned City Lights), and remains to this day an important San Francisco literary destination. With mailing label addressed to Lenoir rear cover, and with "Party 5/16 8 p.m." in ink and stamped "San Francisco Art Institute" verso of jacket. Map endpapers. . SIGNED AND INSCRIBED BY AUTHOR.
