Sixty woodcuts printed by the artist on Masa paper in editions varying in size from 25 to 50 of which numbers 11 - 20 were bound by the artist in a hand-sewn hardcover book format. Prints tipped onto Arches cover text paper. Each print numbered, titled, and signed. Art Hazelwood: "From 1986 to 1993 I traveled around the world, living in Europe and Asia and in various parts of the States. My primary interest however was traveling in Asia. The intensity of travel lured me on to see more and more. Experiences of people and places left their mark and I have tried to give back some of that feeling. Paris: Imp. Lemercier [for:] Librairie Nouvelle, [nd. but ca. 1850s].. 19 plates and 18 plates. Loose sheets. Images, including captions, ca. 27 x 18.5 cm. Margins vary. Some creasing to the larger margins, two plates exhibit foxing and a couple more show some slight marginal tanning, otherwise very good or better. Decent representation of two of the sub- elements of Gavarni's extended work, which when completed, included 329 lithographic plates. The first element lacks plate 1 of the twenty published, and the second lacks plates 4 and 5 of twenty published (duplicates of 2 and 7 are also present, but not included in the count above). Ray treats the series at some length, describing Thomas Virelogue as "one of Gavarni's most brilliant inspirations," and the work as a whole as "a neglected masterpiece of nineteenth-century French graphic art." Isaacson's puffleg or long-billed puff-leg hummingbird, Eriocnemis isaacsoni.Now classified as a hybrid species, Eriocnemis sp. x Helianthea sp.Fine handcoloured lithograph by John Gould and Henry Richter from John Gould's famous Monograph of the Trochilidae, or Family of Hummingbirds, London, Volume IV, 1861. Henry Constantine Richter (1821-1902) was an English zoological illustrator who produced a large number of handcoloured lithographs of birds and mammals, mainly for the scientific books of the renowned English 19th century ornithologist John Gould. Gould was fascinated by hummingbirds and exhibited his extensive collection of 100s of these tiny birds in taxidermy cases at the Great Exhibition in London in 1851. The print (51cm x 34cm) is in very good condition, with very slight age toning overall, mounted in a cream-coloured French matt (71cm x 54cm).
