New York: Knopf, 1938. First American Edition . Hard Back. Fine/Near Fine. 5-1/2" x 8" x 3. Both volumes are First American Edition/First Printing, stated. 664 numbered pages in Vol. 1 and 2. Both volumes in original slipcase. Black sateen cloth binding with spine stamped in gilt and 'Joseph in Egypt' blind stamped on both front boards. Bright, clean, tight, and square text block, no marks of any kind. Corners sharp. Fore-edges of the leaves are rough-cut, top edge stained yellow as issued. Original glassine covers in near fine condition; enclosed in clear archival protector. Slipcase 'as new.' Published in German in 1936 and translated here for the first time into English by H. T. Lowe-Porter. Shipped in a sturdy cardboard box for added protection. This is truly an exceptional copy.
