Upper text block dyed yellow. PO name to front cover verso. This is Volume One only of Joseph in Egypt. Nobel winner of 1929, Thomas Mann 1875 - 1955) wrote the 4-part novel of Joseph and His Brothers (Joseph und seine Brüder) over the course of 16 years. Retelling of familiar stories of the Bible, from Jacob to Joseph (Genesis 27 -50) with acknowlegement of the historical context of the Amarna Period. Mann considered the series his best of works. This copy is volume 1 only of a 2-volume set. The tetralogy consists of I, The Stories of Jacob (Die Geschichten Jaakobs, 1930); II, Young Joseph (Der junge Joseph, 1932), Genesis 37); and III, Joseph in Egypt (Joseph in Ägypten, 1936).
