London: Cadell and Davies, 1809. 1st Edition 1st Printing. Hardcover. Very Good+/No Jacket. 4to - over 9¾ - 12" tall. The standard life of Lord Nelson. First Edition. Illustrated. Two volumes. Imperial Quarto 13 ½" x 10 ½". Full calf with gilt stamped and blind tooled borders to front and back covers. Spines have 5 raised double bands, 6 compartment, with gilt title and ornaments. All edges gilt. Blue satin ribbon page marker in both volumes. Binding is tight, pages are bright, engravings are bright and crisp. No page tears and no markings in either volume. Both volumes have a bookplate on front pastedown for Blythswood with its coat of arms. (The Blythswood baronetsy was created in 1892 for Sir Archibald Campbell, 1st Baronet, the former Member of Parliament for Renfrew in Scotland.) Printed for subscribers, list of whom is at beginning of volume 1. Vol.1 375 pp; Vol.2 511 pp Condition: reinforced hinges. Penciled bookseller note on front pastedown & front endpaper. Scattered small areas of foxing, most to plates, but not on every plate. Most plates bear penciled "294" (subscriber #294?). The engraving after p. 150 has foxing & waterstain to top. Some small chipping to leather edges, small areas of loss to leather. Embossed stamp "I. David Porras" to both volumes front endpapers. A very handsome set in lovely condition.
