Fold-out frontispiece engraved portrait of Erasmus, vi, 630 pp., corrigenda, 1 pp.of adverts. illustrated with two plates of Erasmus' facsimile handwriting. Contemporary full mottled calf, five raised bands, red morocco spine label lettered in gilt. Very Good, light rubbing at edges of boards, light toning mainly associated with facsimile illustrations. Joints and hinges sound. Small mid-19th c. London bookseller's label bottom front paste down. Volume I only, complete in itself. A second volume, containing scholar's opinions on Erasmus and abstracts, was published in 1760. Desiderius Erasmus of Rotterdam ( 1466 - 1536) was one of Europe's most famous and influential scholars of the Northern Renaissance and the first editor of the New Testament. . First Edition. Full Calf. Very Good/No Jacket, As Issued. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall.
