The standard paper first trade edition of this science fiction novel from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.Illustrated with eight plates and two maps. Collated, complete.'The Lost World' is probably Conan Doyle's best known work excluding Sherlock Holmes series. The novel concerns an expedition to a plateau in the Amazon basin of South America where prehistorical, seemingly extinct, animals still survive. It was originally published serially in the Strand Magazine, before being published in book form.Undated, as called for, with the printer's colophon to verso of final leaf 'Wyman and Sons Ltd., printers London and Reading'.With the inscription of W. F. Temple to the front pastedown, and the stamp of W. G. Carpenter to the rear pastedown, a front blank, and the recto of the frontispiece. Further former owner's inscription to frontispiece recto. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Lacking cloth back strip. Significant fading to boards. Fraying to back strip head. Joints starting, with rear board tender, but front board firmly held. Synopsis
