Provenance for 2nd Printing: Owner date, "April 1937 (photo)", P. 9, line 29, "loosely," and no "pendula." No bullet on page # 88 (photo). American Literature was blessed by John Steinbeck's incidental reading of a line of Robert Burns' poetry, later translated into English and became one of the most popular Steinbeck novels, "Of Mice and Men." Required reading in countless subsequent high school English classes, this short story is noted for its rich and detailed description of the main characters, a Steinbeck specialty. A 20th Century literature classic, and simultaneously published as a stage play. The story was later screen played into an Academy Award-nominated film and regarded as an American movie classic.
