Minor cover rippling noted. Spine has tears and chips. National Geographic is the official magazine of the National Geographic Society. It has been published continuously since its first issue in 1888, nine months after the Society itself was founded. It primarily contains articles about geography, history, and world culture. The magazine is known for its extensive use of dramatic photographs. The magazine is published monthly, and additional map supplements are also included with subscriptions. On occasion, special editions of the magazine are issued. This issue includes: High Road in the Pyrenees with Map and 31 Illustrations (26 with Natural Colors) by H. V. Morton and Justin Locke; Men Who Measure the Earth with Map and 26 Illustrations (22 in Natural Colors) by Robert Conly and John E. Fletcher; Fossils Life the Veil of Time with Diagram and 23 Illustrations (19 in Natural Colors) by Harry S. Ladd and Roland W. Brown; People and Penguins of the Faraway Falklands with Map and 34 Illustrations (27 in Natural Colors) by Olin Sewall Pettingill; and Expedition to the Land of the Tiwi with Map and 26 Illustrations (12 in Natural Colors) by Charles P. Mountford. Charles Pearcy Mountford (8 May 1890 - 16 November 1976) was an Australian anthropologist and photographer. He is known for his pioneering work on indigenous Australians and his depictions and descriptions of their art. He also led the American-Australian Scientific Expedition to Arnhem Land.
