Fair Condition/No Dust Jacket. 1st UK Edition; xii, 326 pages, illustrated, 116 illustrations from photographs, 1 photogravure, 3 of the photogravures ares COPIES. Original covers with vignette of polar bear to spine and rear cover. Shelf wear, hinges splitting, spine loosening, covers stained, bumped, foxing, age toning to pages as expected. Frontispiece, plus 2 photogravures and large folding map at end are COPIES. All copies laid in. School library bookplate on verso cover. Sold as a good reading copy. American explorer Robert Peary's interesting account of his expedition from 1908-1909 to the North Pole, the expedition in which he claimed to have reached the Pole. This was a controversial claim and was widely debated alongside Frederick Cook competing claim.
