The former, now deceased,Poet Laureate's first collection of verse since 1961 (then 1964] containing 12 pieces of varying subject, mood, and length. Some of them he describes as "tales in verse",an artistic medium of which he has long been the most notable interpreter writing in English, while the lyrical charm of others is caught in such titles as "Mornings and Aprils".All of them reflect Dr Masefield's lifelong delight in nature, the English countryside and its characters,in history,in the sea and the ships that sail upon it,and in "Lines for the Race of Sailing Ships from Lisbon to New York,1964",he is able to bring his memories of earlier days to bear upon an event of rare interest to younger readers.A nice, clean copy, considering the book's age.
