Three volumes, small quarto, pp viii, 96, (6); iv, 188; iv, 188, three vignette title pages, an extra hand-coloured title page in the first volume, with 137 fine hand coloured plates, all edges gilt, bound in a Victorian half morocco and cloth, the spines highly decorated in gilt, a little rubbed at the joints and corners, the cloth sides slightly marked and very slightly bubbled in a few small places. In Volume 3 title page and the first two plates and text are a little stained at the upper corner, the subsequent three plates and text pages very faintly marked; otherwise this is a remarkably clean and bright set internally - the plates all have their protective tissues which very occasionally have a faint spot of foxing, but nothing has transfered to the surface of the plate. With the book label of Carl Wendell Carlsmith [1904 - 1932] on each of the first blank pages in each volume. RARE, AND EXCEPTIONALLY DIFFICULT…

Description:
American Physical Society, 1957 4to (26.5 cm), pp. 255-546. Printed wrappers, in a custom-made cloth box (wrappers slightly soiled and creased, corners missing). Hugh Everett III (1930-1982) was an American physicist and mathematician best known for his work on the "Relative State" formulation of quantum mechanics, with the first edition published here on pp. 454-462. Everett introduced the concept of the "many-worlds" interpretation of quantum mechanics. According to the "many-worlds" interpretation, every possible outcome of a quantum measurement is realized in a different universe. This means that every time a quantum measurement is made, the universe splits into multiple parallel universes, each corresponding to a different possible outcome. This interpretation contrasts with the more traditional "Copenhagen" interpretation of quantum mechanics, which holds that a quantum system exists in a state of superposition until it is observed, at which point its wave…

Description:
1667 HERBAL Castore Durante Hebario Nuovo Plants Medicine Illustrated MattioliCastore Durante was a 16th-century Italian scholar who is best-remembered for his major work "Hebrario Nuovo". This work, which was first published in 1585, is a collection of descriptions of plants and their medical uses and healing properties. The plants detailed in this work were from Europe and the East and West Indies with information on how to identify them in their indigenous environment. According to Hunt,
"This was a popular Italian herbal that was reprinted in Italian, and translated and published in several other languages, for a number of years. The plant descriptions are written in the form of poems which Arber describes as 'pleasingly unscientific"
This highly coveted and desirable 1667 edition is extremely valuable much in part to the numerous in-text woodcuts in the style of Mattioli.
