Some creasing to the larger margins, two plates exhibit foxing and a couple more show some slight marginal tanning, otherwise very good or better. Decent representation of two of the sub- elements of Gavarni's extended work, which when completed, included 329 lithographic plates. The first element lacks plate 1 of the twenty published, and the second lacks plates 4 and 5 of twenty published (duplicates of 2 and 7 are also present, but not included in the count above). Ray treats the series at some length, describing Thomas Virelogue as "one of Gavarni's most brilliant inspirations," and the work as a whole as "a neglected masterpiece of nineteenth-century French graphic art." Very Good, image size 6 3/4" x 9 3/4", paper browned uniformly, old tape marks and soiling verso, old tape mark front side at corners. Unmatted and unframed, properly matted the flaws would be hidden. Albert Bierstadt was one of America's most famous painters of the 19th-century American West. . Print. Very Good. 9 1/2" x 13".
