About This Item
New York: Wendell Malliet and Company, 1942. Cloth. Very Good +/Very Good -. SIGNED BY ADAM CLAYTON POWELL, SR. on the frontispiece below his portrait. A solid copy to boot of the 1942 stated 1st edition. Tight and VG+ in a bright, VG- example of the fragile pictorial dustjacket, with chipping at the spine ends and very light creasing and chipping --with several small closed tears-- along the panel edges. Octavo, this book represents "a sincere effort to reform the church" by Adam Clayton Powell, Sr., the legendary pastor of Abyssian Baptist Church (1908-1937) and the father of firebrand New York Congressman Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. (the first African-American elected to Congress from New York).
