About This Item
New York: Abbeville Press, 1984. First Edition . Oversize Cloth W. Dj. Slipcase. SIGNED IN RED PAINT BY RED GROOMS ON A PUBLISHER'S PASTE-DOWN SLIP ON VERSO OF FRONT ENDSHEET: "THIS COLLECTOR'S EDITION WAS COMMISSIONED BY ABBEVILLE PRESS AND SIGNED BY RED GROOMS." Very lavish large book that takes a look at the wild and crazy larger than life creations of the popular artist who has been entertaining us for over 50 years with his large scale 3-D environments, paintings, films, and sculptures. Very nicely designed with a colorful wraparound dustjacket and a thick equally colorful die-cut slipcase, both designed by Grooms. Illustrated with 302 color and b&w repros. of his art, along with essay and a biblio. Fine/fine. Also included is Ruckas Rodeo, a marvelous book of six pop-up panels of rodeo life by an artist very well suited to this type of book. Also includes an essay by Barbara Haskell former curator at The Whitney Museum. Very minute wear to the hand of the cowboy, which is not uncommon to this book, otherwise the pop-up panels are crisp, clean and fine. Sold as a collection only. Also laid in is a press release and a many page check list with small color repros. for a recent NYC exhibition.
