About This Item
Boston: Atlantic Monthly Press / Little, Brown and Company, 1955 First printing of the stated first edition. Author's third book of poetry. Signed and inscribed by Howard Nemerov directly on the title page. Association copy: "For Lee Anderson, / with all good wishes, / on the first occasion of our meeting, / at Bennington, 19 iv 58. / Howard Nemerov."
Lee Anderson, poet and editor, recorded Nemerov reading that day and the next in Bennington, Vermont. Anderson donated his recordings to the Library of Congress where they are part of the Archive of Recorded Poetry and Literature today. Anderson recorded many poets in the 1950s, and his work became the basis of the Lee Anderson papers and Yale Series of Recorded Poets sound recordings.
Book with mild rubbing along board edge, a tiny bookseller label at the bottom of the front-free endpage, and faint toning to endpapers, else in fine condition; dust jacket with a tiny closed tear near upper back spine fold, light toning to spine, and mild wear/rubbing to extremities, else fine.
Nemerov: Two time Poet Laureate, National Book Award for Poetry, Pulitzer Prize for Poetry, and Bollingen Prize, Yale Series of Recorded Poets.
