Previous owners neat name on front blank endpaper otherwise a fine copy in original burgundy cloth with gilt illustrations and lettering to front board and spine. Front board with quadruple ruled black borders, spine ruled in gilt. In the scarce original publshers dustwrapper with colour illustration mounted onto the front panel, below black lettering and four line border. Flaps and other panels lettered in black. Original printed price (15/-) on spine has been blacked out neatly. Aside from a couple of tiny chips to the wrapper this is a beautiful fine example of this well produced edition. Scarce in this condition.:

Drake in The Jungle Book, just Kipling in the second Jungle book. Fine, clean copies. Fine leather bindings, by Bumpus, of mid twentieth century half dark red morocco. Spines with five raised bands, compartments ruled in blind and lettered in gilt. Red cloth on boards. Top edges gilt. Marbled endpapers. Just a hint of darkening to the spines of both bindings but overall this is a near fine, lovely set of these classic books.

George Allen & Unwin Ltd. London. 1937. FIRST ENGLISH EDITION. 8vo. (8 x 5.6 inches). A fine copy in a late twentieth century fine leather binding by Morrell of London. Half deep red morocco. Spine with five raised bands, each with gilt piping and floral tooling. Compartments double ruled, decorated and lettered in gilt. Marbled paper on boards. Top edge gilt. Marbled endpapers. A beautiful copy of this first English edition of the Author's autobiographical novel, set against the backdrop of the 1905 Russian revolution, inspired by his childhood in Odessa.

R. and J. Dodsley, London. - No date. 1760. FIRST EDITION. Two volumes. 8vo. (6.2 x 4 inches). Portrait frontis in volume one. Previous owner name neatly written on blank free endpapers and a name clipped from the top of the title pages, otherwise very good, bright and clean copies throughout. Early full tan calf bindings with raised bands to the spines. Compartments double gilt ruled. Red title labels, gilt. Some minor wear to the extremities but overall very good and attractive bindings. ---- Complete as published, these first two volumes of Stern's Sermons of Mr. Yorrick, published anonymously in 1760, were added to at a later date with another five volumes issued between 1766 and 1769.

Bradbury and Evans. London 1848. FIRST EDITION. 8vo. (8.6 x 5.8 inches). Bound without the half title otherwise complet,e with Errata leaf and all 1st state text points, including"Shewed" and "shew" on p.40, "capatin" on p.324, and "if" missing from p.426, among others. Also illustrated with 40 engraved plates by Browne (including Frontispiece and first state illustrated title page showing Captain Cuttle's hook incorrectly on his left arm). A very good copy with the usual browning to the edges of plates but still generally a nice copy. Finely bound in attractive early half rburgundy morocco. Spine with raised bands. Compartments double ruled and elaborately decorated in gilt. Marbled paper on boards and endpapers.Previous owners neat inked name on front free blank endpaper. Edges of binding rubbed and bumped and boards a bit worn but still overall a very good attractive copy.

Nims and Knight. Troy. New York. 1889. Calendar printed on 18 stiff sheets of card. (5.9 x 4.5 inches). Complete. Each leaf has a litho colour illustration depicting a scene from Japanese life, printed after fine water colours by J. Pauline Sunter. Twelve of the cards have the month dates printed to the side of the illustration. The lithography is by G. H Beuk & Co, New York. The cards are held together by two metal rings through punched holes at the top, and have a white silk cord, with tassles, threaded through. The cards are stiff white coated paper with silver edges. The front card has damage to the two holes and is now not attached but all others are firmly in place. The front cover is also a little dusty but generally the whole calendar is very good and features some very attractive illustrations. A rare item. No copies listed on Worldcat.

Hurst and Blackett, Limited. London. 1913. FIRST ENGLISH EDITION. 8vo. viii.376,24 pp publishers adverts for Autumn 1913, including blurb for this book with the title The Mysterious Mr. Noel. This was changed to Balaoo before publication but after the adverts were typeset. Very good bright, tight copy with previous owners name written neatly in ink to front blank endpaper. Some light foxing to a few pages but still generally a nice fresh copy. Publishers red cloth with blind ruled border and gilt lettering to front board. Spine lettered and ruled in gilt. A particularly nice copy of this rare title by the Author of The Phantom of the Opera. Originally published in French in 1912, Balaoo is the story of a Monkey who is brought up by a Scientist as a human, Mr. Noel. He is educated and can read and write and wears the latest Paris fashions. Balaoo is suspected of committing many crimes, culminating in the kidnapping of Mlle. Packed with 100's of detailed mono line drawings, the work provides not only a catalogue of the Great Exhibition but its history. A very good copy in attractive early leather binding of full red morocco. Spine with raised bands, the compartments ruled, lettered and fully decorated in gilt. Elaborate decorative gilt panel within single gilt ruled and two blind ruled borders on both boards. Bevelled edges. Gilt inner dentelles. Coated yellow endpapers. All edges gilt. Bound by Lewis and Williams binders of Cardiff and with their small label to the inner rear board. Noted Irish author Joyce Cary's copy with his ex libris, and his son Michael's just below, on the front pastedown endpaper. Some minor rubbing to the edges but overall a very good copy.

John Bell. London. 1785. Two works in one volume. Early and first edition. 8vo. (5.8 x 3.6 inches). First work; 90pp. second work: 99pp. Some brown offsetting from the glue used in the binding to the first and last couple of leaves, otherwise generally very good copies in an attractive late 18th century leather binding of half dark brown calf. Spine with decorative gilt bands. A new red leather title label, lettered in gilt, has been added to replace the missing original. Marbled paper on the boards. Some rubbing to the edges and the top hinge cracked but holding firm.
