Methuen & Co. Ltd, 1905. Hardcover. Acceptable. 1905. First Edition Thus. 247 pages. No dust jacket. Red cloth with gilt lettering and decorations to spine. Part of the Methuen's Standard Library. Severe cracking to hinges causing boards to be loose. Binding throughout remains firm with all pages attached. Front free endpaper removed. Pages have light tanning with noticeable foxing throughout. More pronounced towards the start and end of the book, and text block edges. Boards have moderate shelf-wear with bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Visible tanning to spine and edges with crushing to spine ends. Splits to spine ends and joints causing cloth to be frayed. Faint black marks overall. Book has a slight forward lean.
Synopsis
Sense and Sensibility is a novel by the English novelist Jane Austen. Published in 1811, it was Austen's first published novel, which she wrote under the pseudonym "A Lady". The story revolves around Elinor and Marianne, two daughters of Mr. Dashwood by his second wife. They have a younger sister, Margaret, and an older half-brother named John. When their father dies, the family estate passes to John, and the Dashwood women are left in reduced circumstances.
