London: Dodsley, 1777. Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. 16mo - over 5¾ - 6¾" tall. Six volumes. Volumes 1 and 2 printed in London for Dodsley in 1777. Volumes 3-6 printed in London in 1776 for Strahan, Becket, and Cadell. Volume 1 contains engraved frontispiece portrait of the author, after Sir Joshua Reynolds. Contains 45 sermons. Size: 6.25" tall (16mo). Bound in contemporary full calf, gilt stamped spine with red and green morocco labels. Five volumes contain laid in Art Deco bookplates of Holbrook Jackson (1874-1948), British journalist, writer, publisher, and one of the leading bibliophiles of his time. Laurence Sterne (1713-1768) is the author of THE LIFE AND OPINIONS OF TRISTRAM SHANDY, GENTLEMAN and A SENTIMENTAL JOURNEY THROUGH FRANCE AND ITALY, as well as his sermons and memoirs. "Mr. Yorick" is a pseudonym of Laurence Sterne. Very Good. Binding tight, joints sound. Rubbed at top and bottom of spines and on corners. Toning to endpapers. There are light pencil notes on endpapers of all volumes, light pencil marks in most volumes (see photo), and light pencil notes in most volumes (see photo). Nearly all pencil notes in the text block seem to be dates.
