About This Item
New York: Simon and Schuster, 1935. First Edition. Hardcover. First edition. Bound in publisher's oatmeal cloth with black and red stamping. Very Good in Good+ original dust jacket. Gutter of front cover has typical offsetting/darkening; cloth a bit foxed, as is typical, but less so than many copies. Fragile jacket chipped at extremities and well-creased along edges, tear along fore edge of back panel, a few pieces of tape on verso, price on back flap intact ($2.00).
An existentialist meditation on capitalism, unrequited love, and the meaning of murder in the guise of a novel about the marathon dance contest craze. Such was the remarkable range of the American noir novel in its heyday... Also the basis of the great 1969 Sydney Pollack film.
