Paris: J. Dumaine, 1867. First edition. Hardcover. Very Good. 379 p. Fourteen plates, including one folding, with three folding maps. Fay was the aide de camp of Pierre Bosquet (1810-61), the French general who played a key role in the battles of Alma and Inkerman and during the siege of Sevastopol. Presentation copy, inscribed by Fay to General Sir William John Codrington (1804-1884), who succeeded Sir James Simpson as Commander-in-Chief, and commanded the force occupying Sebastopol until the final evacuation of the Crimea on July 12, 1856. Octavo. In a later blue leatherette binding by Birdsall & Son of Northampton, with gilt titles and yap edges. Sporadic minor foxing to the contents; else crisp and clean. Inscribed by Author.
