Gandavi,: Typis Judoci Begyn,, 1786 (= 1787).. [10], 466, [ii]; [iv], 44, [iv] pp. 4to (20 x 24.5 cm.). Recent half brown morocco, spine with 5 raised bands; marbled boards. ¶ An interesting municipal pharmacopoea, published by order of the Collegium Medici Gandensis under the editorship of the pharmacists J. de Bever, A.D. Goormachtigh, G. van den Haute, and J. de Vos. The popolar names of the Materia Medica also give in Dutch. This was the last of a series of the municipal pharmacopoeasof Gent. The first was published in 1653 as 'Antidotarium Gandavensis", followed by an edition in 1663, and in 1756 as 'Pharmacopoea Gandavensis'. This is the last municipal pharmacopoea published in Belgium, and new was that the names of the Materia Medica are given in both Latin and Dutch. Today very rare.-- (A number of leaves slightly browned and/or partly foxed).

London: J. Callow, 1809. Second Edition. . Hardcover. See Description. 8vo. pp. vii, [1], 345, [1]. Pages are generally clean with occasional spots of marginal foxing. Edges of title page are age-toned. Book plate re-mounted on inside front cover belonging to Clements C. Fry, M.D. (1892-1955) Professor of Psychiatry at Yale and a well known collector of medical prints. Bound in full modern calf done after an early style. Old spine label is preserved. John Haslam (1764-1844) was an Apothecary or Medical Officer at Bethlem Hospital (Bedlam) and afterwards the Governor of St. Luke's Hospital. Haslam was one of the most knowledgeable practitioners in his field. However, according to Hunter and Macaplpine his attitudes toward patients were rather "harsh and unfeeling." In 1816 scandals arose over poor patient care at Bethlem Hospital and Haslam was dismissed from his position (perhaps unfairly). The "Observations on Madness" was first published in 1798. Haslam, however, considered…

Description:
Tolosae [Toulouse]: Apud Arnaldum Colomerium, Regis, & Academiae Tolosanae Typographum, 1648 A very rare copy of a city pharmacopoeia in possibly contemporary loose vellum wrap. The Pharmaceutical profession was subject to strict regulations from its earliest origins. Reference or formula books were required, guarded, and handed down. In 17th and 18th century France, major cities published their own pharmacopoeia, with 'official' authority. This is the Toulouse pharmacopoiea authored by Pontio Francisco Purpan. It is missing the title page but the contents look otherwise complete with: 3 blank leaves (one looks bright and may have been added at some point); frontispiece by Stuerhelt, with banner 'Dant Sydera Vires'; Dedication by Purpan, 2pp; full page engraving by Stuerhelt; letter by Purpan to a series of nobles 4pp (there is a very well repaired paper tear to the first leaf of the letter); Extract des Registres de Parlement 1p; Catalogue 1p; Lectori 1p; Index Capitum 1p; Codicis…

"In this book, real life photos are used to help young people feel more comfortable with interacting with other children and making new friends. A Note From Fred Rogers: A child's first visit with a pediatrician usually comes soon after birth. It may be months or even years later, though, that a child first shows fear about going to see a doctor. The worry of an injection or some other unfamiliar medical procedure can trigger that fear. It can also appear because another family member may be feeling medical anxieties. And, of course, new body awareness and needs for privacy develop naturally in children's early years, so all these feelings can make it very hard for them to let doctors investigate the workings of…
