Ludwig Wittgenstein (1889 – 1951) was an Austrian philosopher who worked primarily in logic, the philosophy of mathematics, the philosophy of mind, and the philosophy of language. He is considered by many to be the greatest philosopher of the 20th century. From 1929 to 1947, Wittgenstein taught at Cambridge University. In spite of his position, during his entire life only one book of his philosophy was ever published, this book, the Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus. His only other published works were an article, "Some Remarks on Logical Form" (1929) ; a book review; and a children's dictionary. His voluminous manuscripts were edited and published posthumously. In the the Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus, Wittgenstein was concerned with the logical relationship between propositions and the world, and he believed that by providing an account of the logic underlying this relationship, he had solved all philosophical problems. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; xxi, 89 pages .

Synopsis

Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus is the only book-length philosophical work published by the Austrian philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein during his lifetime. It was an ambitious project, to identify the relationship between language and reality and to define the limits of science. It is recognized as one of the most important philosophical works of the twentieth century. G. E. Moore originally suggested the work's Latin title as homage to Tractatus Theologico-Politicus by Baruch Spinoza.
