About This Item
Cambridge University Press, 1949. 1st edition. Hardcover. Fine in light blue cloth and very clean pages, plates and maps. The pink dustjacket with eight small photos on the front is not price-clipped, shows a little rubbing and a light crease, but the rear panel is extremely clean and white, and the spine is only fractionally paled. Overall, a very nice copy of the author's account of his attempts to climb, first, Rakaposhi in the Gilgit region of the Himalaya, and then, with Eric Shipton, to climb Muztagh Ata in the Tibetan Plateau. Both expeditions almost succeeded. Bill Tilman concludes his book with his journey through the Wakhan Corridor in north-eastern Afghanistan to find the source of the River Oxus. Extraordinary, fascinating travels, unrepeatable today.
